Disabled VietNam Veteran Needs more cheer!!!

(MAMA KAT ORR WRITES)
hello everyone! A few weeks ago, I sent out a plea, asking for cards & letters to cheer up a Vietnam Veteran who is in poor health. So far, he has LOVED all the cards and letters he's received... they have made him cry many tears of JOY and helped him tremendously. Unfortunatley, our friend has had a new setback ~ he was taken to the hospital late last night (or very early this morning) due to pneumonia. He may be able to come home Saturday as he's doing better, but that remains to be seen. So please keep those prayers -- and cards & letters! -- coming! It means so very much to him, and it sounds to me like he could use another round of encouragement for sure. Cards may be sent to the following address:

God bless you all, and thanks!

Wednesday's Hero.

This Weeks Hero Was Suggested by Kathi

Soldiers' Angels Living Legends Team
Soldiers' Angels Living Legends Team
May No Soldier Go Unloved

Living Legends began in May 2005 with a very small team of seven dedicated angels. The team's mission was to let the families and friends of fallen heroes know that we were here to support them and to honor their loved one. At the same time, they had to make sure that they were sensitive to what the family was going through. While this team has grown tremendously, they have worked very hard to maintain that same level of dedication and sensitivity. This team is staffed with trained volunteers who carry out a very difficult mission for Soldiers' Angels. Due to their dedication, Soldiers' Angels is able to honor those heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and to pay their respects and offer their deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones grieving the painful loss of their son or daughter; husband or wife; brother or sister; mom or dad; aunt or uncle; their friend.

" A Hero's Definetion"

A hero can be steriotyped as famous, popular or smart, a hero can be a person brave enough to make a new start. A hero is a parent, a teacher , or a friend. A hero is a loved one whos with you till the end. Do we ever look for hero's in enexpected places, or search for a hero's smile on unexpected faces? I have found a hero in a place so unexpected, A place where joy is endless, and faults no longer inspected. I looked up to the sky one day with tears in my eyes, And I saw a hero looking back with sadness and she sighed. She said , " Dont cry for me or the person I once was, remember me being joyus and happy......just because". I closed my eyes again and let the last tear fall, Because I knew deep in my soul, to heed my hero's call. So silently I said a prayer to my hero guiding me, to make the voyage safe when my journey comes to be. So I learned a hero may not wear rings of gold, They may not be on T.v, or take care of the weak and old. Instead of knowing hero's as the people we idolize, Look up to the heavens, for the answers in the skys. They may may not have the halo or the wings we've come to know, they may not wear long white robes or come to earth in a glow. They are a simple whisper, or a breeze that makes you smile, They are a warm feeling that you hang on to for a while. So let them be the hero's , the ones that fought through strife, for they are the loved ones passed on from a former life. The ones you held so dear who would keep you safe at night, Now they keep you safe with God's love, his will and might. Gaurdian angels that were once human brought to life in another form, They wrap their love around you, when life sends you a storm. So they are the hero's , the ones we know the best, the souls of our dear loved ones we once laid to rest. Thank God each day for their guidance....we'd surely be lost without it, So smile for the ones passed on, For at the right hand of God they sit.

Wednesday's Hero.

(Please forgive me for not posting like I should)
Spc. Monica Lin Brown
Spc. Monica Lin Brown
19 years old from Lake Jackson, Texas
4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team

Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown has done something only a very few female soldiers in American history have ever done. She's been awarded the Silver Star.

Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers after a roadside bomb tore through a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia province of Afghanistan in April 2007. "I did not really think about anything except for getting the guys to a safer location and getting them taken care of and getting them out of there."

"We stopped the convoy. I opened up my door and grabbed my aid bag," Brown said.

She started running toward the burning vehicle as insurgents opened fire. All five wounded soldiers had scrambled out.

"I assessed the patients to see how bad they were. We tried to move them to a safer location because we were still receiving incoming fire," Brown said. "So we dragged them for 100 or 200 meters, got them away from the Humvee a little bit," she said. "I was in a kind of a robot-mode, did not think about much but getting the guys taken care of."

For Brown, who knew all five wounded soldiers, it became a race to get them all to a safer location. Eventually, they moved the wounded some 500 yards away and treated them on site before putting them on a helicopter for evacuation.

"I did not really have time to be scared," Brown said. "Running back to the vehicle, I was nervous (since) I did not know how badly the guys were injured. That was scary."

The military said Brown's "bravery, unselfish actions and medical aid rendered under fire saved the lives of her comrades and represents the finest traditions of heroism in combat."

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
